ABOUT THE BRAND
Owner
My name is Malia Alley and I am the founder/owner of Sew Aloha. Sew Aloha got its official launch in the summer of 2022 when I signed up for my first craft show. I grew up with my family in Hawaii and moved to Kentucky 12 years ago for college. I am a wife and a mom to one awesome little girl.
My Story
During my early childhood I spent most of my time with my grandparents. My grandma is where I get all of creative inspiration from. Whether it was us making jewelry, painting, pottery, crocheting, or sewing together, she was the one that encouraged my artistic expression and let me guide us in whatever path I was interested in. I remember these being core memories and has shaped me into the person I am today. My grandma was one busy lady, she was a full time nurse, one of my primary caregivers and she was also the most craftiest woman I have ever met. Sewing was always the one thing that never took a back seat for her, you could show her a picture of something you wanted her to make, come back the next day and she managed to create exactly what you wanted. She made my backpacks, book covers, pencil cases, sling bags, quilts, you name she could do it. Being at such a young age she truly inspired me and showed me that if you truly want to, you can do it all. She taught me how to sew at young age but it was never something fully stuck with me, it was always small projects here and there. As I got older and had my daughter I would find myself saying "man I wish I had a product like that" or "if only the the print was more my style". Thats what started it all, in 2021 I made my first item, a library bag for my daughter and never would I have imagine it would turn into what it is today. I have now been given the opportunity to give my daughter something my grandma gave to me. My daughter loves crafting just as much as her mommy and I encourage her creative mind as much as possible. During this journey of creating Sew Aloha my grandma and my daughter have been my motivation and inspiration. My daughter has been to every craft show most of the time from set up to take down and she has grown so much as a person just by watching mommy do her thing. At the time of my first craft show my grandma was only visiting from Hawaii but I was grateful she was able to be apart of it. She was so impressed and so happy to have someone in the family to carry on her sewing passion. Moving into 2023 my grandma has been here since April so not only has she attended every craft show, its gotten her creative juices flowing all over again. A primary value of Sew Aloha that I hold dearly to my heart is the importance of family. I am lucky enough to not only have my grandma by my side but my mother and daughter as well. Without them I don't think I would have made it this far. Family is every.
My mission
Over these last few years I have had the opportunity to think about what I want to get out of this business and what I want to achieve. First thing is to be positive role model to my daughter, next I want to be able to bring some of that Aloha here to KY. I want to also connect with other creators and people that share similar passions. Mainly I just want people to use my products not only because they are aesthetically pleasing to the eye but actually useful. I use and love all the products I make and I want others to be able to fall in love with them as well.
